With an area of 340 hectares, Lake Léon is one of the largest lakes in the Landes, and its southern beach is a must during your holidays in Côte Landes Nature!

With a water temperature significantly higher than that of the sea, the beach at Léon is ideal for basking in the sun and enjoying the a swim with the family. There’s also a playground for children.

Sports enthusiasts will enjoy a multitude of nautical activities at the Lake Léon beach: stand-up-paddle, canoeing, windsurfing, pedaloes, optimist dinghies and much more besides.

Cycling and hiking enthusiasts can forget the car and venture out on our wonderful network of cycle paths during their stay in Côte Landes Nature. Between the forest trails and the greenway that links Contis Plage to the village of Léon, Lake Léon is a refreshing stop on the European Vélodyssée cycle route.

To the west of the lake, the Courant d’Huchet winds its way to the Atlantic. This natural drainage channel is nicknamed “the Landes Amazon,” and is a classified nature reserve offering visitors an amazing experience in its lush vegetation. Visit the Maison de la Réserve on the shores of the lake for an entertaining and educational introduction to the local biodiversity, and embark on a “galupe” (traditional flat-bottomed boat), letting the boatmen guide you through 10 kilometres of wild landscapes, between wetlands, dunes and peat bogs. An unforgettable excursion to experience with family, friends or with your other half!

Anglers will adore the lake, which offers excellent fishing conditions and a rich diversity of cyprinids and white fish, predators and other varieties.

Facilities at Léon Beach

  • For safe swimming, the beach at Léon is supervised in July and August.
  • Picnic tables are available.
  • Be respectful of the environment. Fires are strictly prohibited.
  • The beach at Léon is authorised for dogs on a leash, but our four-legged friends are prohibited from swimming.
  • Naturism is not allowed there.
  • Different types of fishing are possible and permitted all year round, exclusively from the banks.
  • A fishing pontoon with a walkway and parking for people with reduced mobility are available.
